OVERVIEW: Young people are the main demographic using the internet. While the widespread availability of internet access is largely seen as a positive development for the future, it has also brought about several challenges. One major concern is the safety and privacy of young people online. The ease with which they can access the internet has led to problems related to insufficient media literacy and a lack of clear guidelines for responsible use of social media and other online tools. Consequently, young people are exposed to various risks in the digital realm.

Moreover, the internet has seen a significant increase in unreliable information, which contributes to hate speech, xenophobia, and the rise of violent extremism. It also reinforces stereotypes and prejudice among young users. Given the seriousness of these issues, we have initiated this project to empower young people with enhanced media literacy skills. Our goal is to combat violence and unsafe digital environments for young users and to reduce the spread of false and misleading information online. Our approach emphasizes fostering meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding to cultivate a more responsible and informed online community.

Social media is a powerful tool for connecting with friends, making business contacts, and participating in various communities. It offers opportunities for interaction and sharing thoughts. Media literacy, on the other hand, refers to people’s ability to access, understand, analyze, produce, and critically evaluate media content. Young people with strong media literacy skills are better equipped to understand the complex messages conveyed through media channels.
